Learning Everyday Independent Skills
Life Skills Centre – We know that developing independence is very important for people, and New Directions has always had sessions dedicated to helping people develop their independent living skills and safe risk-taking.
Our bungalow is on the Village site on the edge of Stafford. It is an excellent resource with a fully fitted kitchen, as well as teaching areas and gardens. We believe it is the first purpose-made facility of its kind amongst day opportunities providers in Staffordshire, and, following a complete refurbishment in February 2019, now allows us to teach a whole range of independent-living skills.

We have developed the garden to make it flat and accessible for wheelchair users.
So, whether it is teaching practical skills such as cooking, budgeting or food safety, supporting people to have healthy lifestyles, or encouraging them to participate in project groups, New Directions can support individuals to develop their independence, risk awareness, and choice-making skills, and ensure they continue to play a valued part in the community.
We also run our Upcycle and sewing group from this facility.
